It’s Not Too Soon to Start Thinking About
INTERSESSION!!
We’re only a few
weeks into the new school year, and already faculty and staff are wandering
about wearing speculative expressions, checking their closets for gear, and
tallying hypothetical costs and budgets.
This is the time for them to submit their plans for Intersession
Courses, and they have come up with some very exciting proposals.
If you and your
daughter(s) have not had an opportunity to experience Intersession yet, you
should know that it is a venerable Notre Dame tradition; a biennial celebration
of the talents and enthusiasms that teachers don’t ordinarily get a chance to
share with their students. During
the Wednesday/Thursda/Friday following President’s Day, Notre Dame faculty
and staff present workshops, lead retreats, and conduct mini-adventures for
small, eclectic groups of students.
This break in the normal routine gives the members of our community a
means to build connections with people we don’t ordinarily teach, and to learn
about the sides of ourselves that don’t have an opportunity for expression
during the regular school day.
In late
October, the Intersession Catalog will be available in school and on the
NDB website. Please watch for it, and take time to review the options with your
daughter(s). A wide range of
courses will be available, some of them nearly cost-free, some of them more
expensive. Students will have
opportunities to learn skills, to visit new places, to gain community service
hours, and to have valuable experiences.
On October 24th, students will receive registration forms in
advisory which they must bring home to discuss with you. No registration form
will be accepted without parent/guardian signature. The first week of November, students will register
for their chosen courses through advisories. (Priority will be given to upper classwomen) Please advise your daughter to choose
several alternatives, so that we can best ensure her placement in an
Intersession course that will bring her joy.
If you are
planning to take your daughter(s) on a Family Trip, please remember that
students may only exercise this Intersession option once during their four
years at NDB.
The Intersession
Catalog will contain all pertinent information on times, costs, and course
details, as well as registration and permission forms. If you have questions after reviewing
the Catalog, please contact Winifred Montgomery at wmontgomery@ndhsb.org, or Anne Schaefer
at aschaefer@ndhsb.org.
