SENIOR’S ACTIVITY CALENDAR

Fall

  • Attend UC and CSU application workshops during lunch at NDB to help with applying to those institutions  (all applications are on line).

                (Oct. 1 – Nov. 30)
  • Contact private colleges to get paper applications, or go on line to the college web site and apply on line.  Application deadlines vary.
  • Identify schools that require essays, letters of recommendation and interviews.  Give teachers at least two weeks notice regarding letters of recommendation needed.  Follow NDB teacher recommendation guidelines including the orange form to be completed.
  • Transcript Requests – private colleges require than an official transcript be submitted.  Official transcripts can be obtained by filling out an official transcript request form (in College and Guidance office or room 221, Registrar’s Office).  You must allow at least two weeks for processing of this request.  Mrs. Keller is our Registrar and her office is located in room 221.
**UC and CSU do not require that a transcript be sent with the application, if they need an official transcript, they will request it from you.
  • See College Representatives that visit NDB, especially if you are planning on applying to that college.   A good face-to-face meeting helps in the admission process.
  • Attend the Tri-School College Night at Serra High School (October), great workshops, over 100 colleges and universities are present that evening.
  • Register for the CSS PROFILE, financial aid for some private colleges.  Check to make sure that the private college that you are applying to require the filing of the PROFILE for financial aid, many do NOT.  Some that do require the PROFILE include:  Santa Clara University and Loyola Marymount University.  The deadline to submit the PROFILE is Feb. 1.
  • Release and send your test scores to all colleges that you have applied to.
  • If you are applying for Early Decision or Early Action, meet the deadlines for all testing requirements and for submitting your application, essay and letters of recommendation.

Winter

  • December is the last month to take the SAT reasoning and SAT Subject, and ACT tests at most colleges.
  • Attend Financial Aid for College Night at NDB (January) Have your parents attend this evening – learn information about the FAFSA and Cal Grant programs.
  • Get your PIN number for the FAFSA form – A PIN (Personal Identification Number) is needed for you and one of your parents: www.pin.ed.gov
  • Complete the FAFSA, Cal Grant, PROFILE and Supplemental Financial Aid forms as soon as possible after Jan. 1.  On line application for FAFSA:  www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Cal Grant Verification forms are due March 2nd, (submit your gpa verification form to the College and Guidance Office by Feb. 27th) Cal Grant Verification forms are submitted on line by the Guidance Office.
  • Research scholarships, good websites: www.fastweb.com  and www.finaid.com  and check out NDB website – go to Guidance and Counseling then to programs then scholarships!  Good sites to check out!
  • After filing the FAFSA, review the SAR (Student Aid Report) and submit any corrections to the FAFSA on line if applied on line)
  • Freshmen housing is not always guaranteed review all housing application procedures with each college and comply with all deadlines.

Spring

  • UC/CSU send acceptance notification in March
  • Start Community College application process and placement tests.
  • Attend Open Houses of your top college choices in March/April.
  • Submit your financial aid information (SAR) report and any housing deposits still due.
  • Send your Student Intent to Register (SIR) form in with the deposit required before the May 1st deadline.
  • Notify colleges you will not be attending
  • Write thank you letters for any scholarships received and to those people who wrote you letters of recommendation, notifying them of the school you plan to attend.
  • Request your final Official Transcript to be sent to the college you will be attending (Blue Graduation Form will be the request form – due 4/27)
