It is our mission in the College and Guidance Center to assist each student in the development of her whole self, both in the present and in preparation for her future. Therefore, Notre Dame provides four full-time counselors and a full-time administrative staff person to support young women in all aspects of their goal-development and goal-achievement.
Research and experience inform us that girls’ developmental needs are very different in each year of high school, and that the expertise, knowledge, and personal qualities in a counselor that serve a freshwoman best may not be optimal for a senior. Therefore, we have dedicated a counselor to serve freshman and sophomores, and another to serve juniors and seniors. In addition, we provide a full-time college counselor, and a full time Special Needs counselor. With this system, students have an excellent opportunity to connect with their assigned counselors over two years, and then to meet at least two other counselors as they progress in their education. We foster an open and welcoming environment in the College and Guidance Center. We encourage students to form close connections with all of our staff, and to seek additional support from whichever adult they most cherish and trust. We encourage an open-door policy among counselors, although time and availability constraints may reward students who make appointments.
Always, our programs and policies are designed with the intention of helping each student identify who she wants to become in the world, and achieve that goal.
