FRESHMAN STUDENTS

Your first year at Notre Dame will be full of new and exciting experiences such as the frosh social events and learning all about high school life. There will be some academic challenges you will face in your first year but none that you cannot overcome with the right help. Here are some tips that might help you out:

  • Be a good student- Do your homework, study for tests, pay attention in class and always try your best.
  • Be resourceful- Learn how to ask for help from in-school resources such as tutoring, the Listeners program or Stressed Out Students.
  • Take care of yourself- exercise regularly, get at least 8 hours of sleep each night, eat healthy snacks and meals.
  • Choose your friends wisely- Friends will keep you from getting hurt.

Mrs. Calamba is the counselor for all freshmen, and also coordinates the Peer Tutoring program and The Listeners Program. Her job is to help ease your way into high school life and assist you in developing the skills that lead to success. You can see her about your school schedule, making goals for your future, or if you have any questions about school. She is also available to talk about home, relationships, depression, alcohol or drug use and other topics that may affect your academic performance.

As a Freshman, here are some things to do this school year:

  • Attend Frosh Social Events.
  • Join an after school activity.
  • Attend Frosh Parent Education Night with your parents in September.
  • Meet with your counselor.
  • Attend Frosh/ Sophomore College Night.
  • Complete at least 25 hours of community service hours towards the 100 hours required for graduation. Complete more hours and be eligible for numerous scholarships. See Community Service requirements and College Scholarships
