Philosophy of the Notre Dame Guidance Department
We strive to contribute to the development of a school-wide environment in which each individual's growth in the intellectual, psychological, moral, and physical realms can be supported. Serving as the link between academic, emotional and bureaucratic facets of the educational process, the Guidance process offers a vital opportunity to foster respect for each student's beliefs, values, convictions, self-worth and human dignity. Our goal is to help cultivate a "climate of joy" in which each student can develop her capacities for reflection, discovery, creative thinking, and responsible decision-making as she interacts with the community to which she belongs.
As a means of achieving these ends, our intent is to:
-
assist each student to develop her academic potential in preparation for college and beyond.
-
help each student come to a better understanding of herself, in relationship to her own goals and values, and consistent with the justice and charity of a Christian community.
-
encourage each student to use her own life experiences as a foundation for developing responsibility and sound judgment.
-
serve as liaison between administration, faculty, parents and students.
