The Listeners Program

This resource provides a directory of teachers and staff who are available to listen to students facing difficult issues. Some teachers are listed for several topics, some for only one or a few. But everyone on the list is ready to be there for you, should you need someone to listen.

There may be times when students just want someone to be a good listener. Friends can be helpful, but might be too close to a situation to listen effectively. Parents are good resources, but sometimes it is hard for them to just listen, instead of trying to "fix something." Sometimes students want to talk about issues that they don't want to bring up with friends or family.

Often, teachers are ready and willing to be good listeners for their students. They just may not know which students need a good ear and for what reasons. But they are glad to be available.

How can you find Listener?

Look for a rainbow poster located on a teacher or staff member’s door or classroom. There is also a current list of Listeners and room numbers on the Listener’s Program bulletin board located near the dining room entrance.

How should you use this resource?

First of all, review the teachers and staff and the topics and then file this list in a place where you can find it when you need it. If you'd like to speak to someone on the list, email the listener or talk to him or her privately before or after class then set up a time to meet. It's that simple.

Teachers and staff hope this will help you find the listeners you may want or need.
