How to use the Research Databases
These research databases are available 24/7. No login is required at school, but login is required when accessing remotely. The login id is provided beside each of the databases. The databases have been divided into the following categories: Newspapers & Periodicals, Reference, Health & Wellness, History, Literature, Science, Social Science, and World Languages. You may search one database at a time, or you may search multiple databases at once by clicking on the PowerSearch icon below. Please note that PowerSearch (ndhs) will cross-search most, but not all, of the databases listed below:
Expanded Academic ASAP Database (ndhs)Expanded Academic ASAP includes journals and periodicals covering a wide variety of disciplines, from social science, humanities and politics to medicine, general interest and science over the past 25 years.
General Onefile Database (ndhs)General OneFile provides periodical and news. Content includes more than 12,000 titles, with nearly 30 years of coverage.
General Reference Center Gold Database (ndhs)General Reference Center Gold covers national news magazines and core business journals over the past 25 years.
World News Digest contains essential facts of the news as reported in the major newspapers and news magazines around the world. Also included are maps, photographs, historic documents, and overviews of key issues, newsmakers, and events since 1940.
Biography Resource Center (ndhs) The Biography Resource Center contains more than 440,000 biographies on more than 340,000 people from around the world and throughout history.
Discovering Collection Database (ndhs)Discovering Collection covers major curriculum subjects including Literature, History, Science and Social Studies. It includes primary source documents, topic overviews, literary criticism, biographies and study guide questions.
Britannica Online offers full text encyclopedia articles as well as
access to selected web sites and visual material.
Infotrac Student Edition Database (ndhs)Infotrac Student Edition provides full-text content from 14 reference books from many subject areas including science, history, literature politics, sports and the environment.
Student Resource Center Gold Database (ndhs)Student Resource Center Gold provides full-text articles from more than 1,200 magazines and newspapers from 1980 to the present, nearly 50,000 biographies, criticisms, essays and overviews, entries from the acclaimed American Decades series, more than 21,000 timeline event descriptions, more than 15,000 photographs, maps and graphics, thousands of primary source documents, including diaries, letters and recordings and hundreds of audio and video clips

The CQ Press Supreme Court Collectionprovides access to over 5,000 casesummaries and over 8,000 opinion-writing and voting results. It includes
an analysis of thousands of Supreme Court decisions within the context of our nation's history and the constitution. Biographies of every justice include a detailed analysis of their judicial philosophies with links to their opinions. The constitution is explained and a historical perspective of the Supreme Court is provided.
Annals of American History provides access over 2,000 primary source documents dating back to 1493. Includes speeches, essays, biographies, landmark court decisions, editorials, poems, song verses, and more.

Science Online offers biographies, definitions, experiments and activities, a broad range of essays on current issues in science, technology, and society, a special feature each month, videos, animations, diagrams and images, as well as chronology entries organized in a timeline by time period or scientific topic.

Global Issues in Context (ndhs)Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events. Featured are hundreds of continuously updated issues and country portals that bring together a variety of specially selected, highly relevant sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues. Each of these gateway pages includes an overview, unique "perspectives" articles written by local experts, reference, periodical, primary source and statistical information. CountryReports.org offers cultural, historical and statistical information. Some content is also available in French and Spanish.
