A Message from the Belmont Police Department

Dear Notre Dame Community,

Due to a substantial number of complaints throughout the school year by residents and motorists, speed enforcement around the Notre Dame High School and Elementary School will be substantially increased.  It is my intent to highlight responsible driving, especially where kids are walking and playing.  One of the tools available to me is education.  I hope everyone can take just a moment when they get into their cars and leave school to think about the awesome responsibility it is to drive and the terrible tragedies that occur when we do not give our full attention to this skill.  The posted speed limits on a street are the MAXIMUM speed for the road under the best of conditions.  In the eyes of the law, school dismissal times provide the worst traffic conditions for both pedestrian and vehicle.  School zone and residential zone speed limits are always 25 MPH unless posted otherwise.

I hope this can be a group effort, because the alternative will be strict enforcement which is not my preferred method.  So please, when you get in your cars each day, think about what the car you are driving is capable of and take just a second to ensure you going to get where you are going safely.

I would also like to toss out the idea of community.  Make it safe for others to drive slowly and safely by doing it yourself.  If you are respected in your social circles, lead by example and show others it is important with your deeds, not just your words.  If you are a passenger, be vocal because the person who drives the car you are in puts you in danger with each of their mistakes.  As a passenger don't distract the driver and allow them to get you to your destination safely.  I know these things seem simple, but as life goes on and bad things stay at an arms distance away, we sometimes forget the basics.

I am always available for questions.  You can reach me through the school office, the police department or by email, scott@belmont.gov.

Go Tigers!

Dematteis.  It chronicles Lou's search for the side of his father he never knew.  Crimebuster will be followed by several short films by Tiger TV students about their own families.  The evening will end in a forum with all of the filmmakers.  The evening begins at 7:00 p.m.
