No Woman Left Behind
DATE: November 24, 2009
TIME: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Carlmont High School
Performing Arts
Theater
ADMISSION: Free
Shelley Bustamante, a therapist at Carlmont High
School, is organizing a presentation to inform and educate parents, students,
and professionals about the occurrence of sexual assault of females at
private parties.
In most cases, the victim is unsupervised and too
intoxicated to defend herself. Our keynote speaker is Lauren Chief Elk, one of Carlmont's SOS students, who has appeared on KGO, ABC
20/20, KPIX, AND KRON and currently works at Rape Trauma Services.
Lauren will discuss the incident at De Anza College when
she and her soccer teammate rescued a 17 year-old high school student who was being
raped by members of the baseball team.
You will also hear personal stories of Carlmont students and receive strategies and tips for parents who are hosting parties or allowing
their children to attend parties.

Annual Fund Underway
By Julie Clemens, Director of Institutional
Advancement
The Annual Fund for Notre Dame has officially
launched. The parents of freshmen have been attending small group presentations
to learn about our school's financial structure and the ways the fundraising
programs enable us to offer the comprehensive selection of curricula and
programs that benefit all of our students. Most of the parents of sophomores,
juniors, and seniors have received their invitation to support the annual fund.
DOWNLOAD 2009-2010 Annual Fund Brochure
We have a significant goal to achieve this year,
$775,000 in total from parents, foundations, alumnae, board members, faculty
and staff, and the broader community. We can not reach this goal without every
parent's generosity.
NDB no longer "requires" a gift, and we no longer
ask for a four-year pledge. We recognize that financial conditions change from
year to year, and we understand that some years are better for some families than others.
Thus, we ask you to make your contribution commensurate with your financial position
this year. We hope that the spirit moves those who can be very generous to do
so this year as some families are not in the position to be as generous.
We are all lifted up through the generosity of
others. It is crucial that NDB increase our parent participation ratio from
last year's 40%!
Please
make sure to give soon! Our parent
volunteers will be on the phones soon
to call you about making your gift. Even if you wish to make your contribution
later in the year, please return your pledge form by December 1.
Remember, any cash gift made by December 31 will be tax deductible
for your 2009 tax return.
If you would like to discuss making a contribution
or find out ways to make your gift, please contact me at 650.595.1913, ext.
370, or jclemens@ndhsb.org.
Thank you!

CO-CHAIRS NEEDED The more the merrier!
Volunteers are
needed to establish a team that will drive Auction solicitation
activities including brainstorming/targeting key businesses and
individuals, encouraging the parent community to solicit their favorite
establishments, inspiring student involvement and encouraging attendance
at Motown 'til Midnight. If you have some
great ideas, if you are willing to make some targeted calls, or if you just
want to help, we need you!
