Rapid Notifying System

In collaboration with the Belmont Police Department and Belmont Safe Schools, Notre Dame highly recommends that parents register to become a member of our Rapid Notifying System.  Go to the Notre Dame Home Page at www.ndhsb.org, log in your cell phone number, and follow the instructions.  This message system will be used in the event of any school emergency or disaster.
North vs. South Debate
by Anne Schaefer-Salinas

GolfBanner
This week, the APUSH (Advanced Placement United States History) class debated the right of the South to secede from the Union in 1860.  Such notables as Jefferson Davis, Abe Lincoln, Dred Scott, Harriet Tubman, Stonewall Jackson, and William Lloyd Garrison were present.

In the end, no clear decision was reached as these modern-day actors were no better at solving the sectional issues that plagued out nation than the real-life actors were some 150 years ago.

Attention Seniors and Senior Parents
BLUE FORM UPDATE

GolfBannerIn April, your daughter will receive the Award/ Scholarship Form and Final Transcript Request (Blue Form).

Please ask your daughter to keep all letters that indicate she has received a college, local, or community award or scholarship.  She must submit a copy of the letter(s) with the Award/Scholarship Form to ensure that the award and the scholarship information are accurate for the Graduation Program and Academic Awards Celebration. She must also submit the Final Transcript Form to secure her acceptance to the College/University she will attend next fall.
From the Desk of the Assistant Principal

aspirinThe National Reye's Syndrome Foundation has asked that we remind parents that "this year, with H1N1 a threat to our children, it is more important than ever to remind parents that kids and aspirin don't mix."

Please go to  www.reyessyndrome.org/schools.html to obtain free literature regarding Reyes Syndrome.

We also ask parents to be sure to notify the school if your daughter is diagnosed with the H1N1 flu.

College of the month!

GolfBannerDid you know that the Notre Dame de Namur Sisters have a college in Boston?  Founded in 1919, Emmanuel College is known for the quality of their values-based academic programs. It is a coed, residential Catholic liberal arts and sciences college located in the heart of Boston.  The 17- acre campus is surrounded by a world-class medical center and two major art museums, and it is just down the street from Fenway Park.  Emmanual College has 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students from 31 countries and 30 states.
For more information please visit www.emmanuel.edu
NDB Financial Aid Forms
Now Available

This is a reminder that financial aid forms are now available online at http://www.ndhsb.org/Admissions/financial_res.html.

For hard copies of these Financial Aid forms, please contact the Business office at 650-595-1913, ext. 230.  Please note that you have to apply for financial aid annually for eligibility.

All forms need to be received by February 5, 2010.

Families applying for financial aid need to file their tax returns early and follow the proper instructions and timelines for consideration and eligibility.  Because of the school's limited financial aid, resources will be awarded to those who submit their complete applications on time.
No Woman Left Behind

DATE: November 24, 2009
TIME: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
LOCATION:  Carlmont High School
Performing Arts Theater
ADMISSION: Free

No Woman Left BehindShelley Bustamante, a therapist at Carlmont High School, is organizing a presentation to inform and educate parents, students, and professionals about the occurrence of sexual assault of females at private parties.

In most cases, the victim is unsupervised and too intoxicated to defend herself. Our keynote speaker is Lauren Chief Elk, one of Carlmont's SOS students, who has appeared on KGO, ABC 20/20, KPIX, AND KRON and currently works at Rape Trauma Services.

Lauren will discuss the incident at De Anza College when she and her soccer teammate rescued a 17 year-old high school student who was being raped by members of the baseball team.

You will also hear personal stories of Carlmont students and receive strategies and tips for parents who are hosting parties or allowing their children to attend parties.

Why Does Notre Dame Have an Annual Fund?
By Julie Clemens,
Director of Institutional Advancement

GolfBannerThe Annual Fund supplies the critical resources that bridge the gap between the actual cost of educating a girl at Notre Dame and the tuition charged.  Tuition will only cover 87% of this year's operating budget. Your contributions ensure that NDB can retain our talented and dedicated faculty, college-preparatory curriculum, and co-curricular and extracurricular programs that give each girl the opportunity to excel at her individual talents.

Our goal of $775,000 from parents, foundations, alumnae, board members, faculty and staff, and the broader community helps us fulfill our mission - our promise - to each and every NDB student to give her opportunity, challenge her capacity, and nurture her growth.

The Annual Fund of $775,000 with our special event programs goal of $321,000 represents 10% of this year's budget. The success of these programs helps to perpetuate NDB's successful reputation and thus increases the value of your daughter's NDB diploma.

Your gift to the Annual Fund is the best way to show your commitment to an NDB education and impacts your daughter every day!

Please click here to visit our website for a brief movie with more details on the Annual Fund.

If you would like to discuss making a contribution, or find out ways to make your gift, please contact me at 650.595.1913, ext. 370, or jclemens@ndhsb.org.

Thank you!
