Philosophy
The Visual and Performing Arts Department endeavors to provide students with opportunities for self-expression through visual and performing arts experiences which contribute to and enhance self-esteem. The Department is pledged to teach skills and encourage the risk-taking components of projects which nurture this creative expression. The Department continually promotes an appreciation for the respective disciplines and strives to instill critical analyses for aesthetic outcomes.
Our Essential Standards
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze the formal qualities of the discipline studied.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the connection between artistic works and their historical origins.
- Master new media and technology related to the discipline studied.
- Work in expressive modes recognizing the originality of their own expressions and recognizing the importance of respecting those of others.
- Communicate their ideas and feelings and appreciate their own and others' creativity.
- Make sound critical judgments about the quality and success of their own and others' creative works.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the value of the contributions of visual and performing arts to culture and society.
