During the fall semester in English, after studying about Ancient Greece, Heroes, Gods/Goddesses and other Greek Studies, students plan and prepare a one hour afternoon event on a Friday in late October/Early November. Aspects of the event include: food, dress, music, dancing, historical figures, poster boards presentations and/or acting.
During the fall semester in English, students will work out of English Workshop studying grammar. Each chapter concentrates on specific areas of sentence structure and sentence writing, During the fall semester in English, students will learn to write the paragraph using the following format: Topic Sentence, Lead in to Quotation/Example, two sentences of Commentary, transition/lead in to second Quotation/Example, two sentences of Commentary, Concluding Sentence/"So What?" These paragraphs will be practiced through repetition. This will be worked on in conjunction with the writing and grammar in Social Science.
During the fall semester in English, students will learn to write the paragraph using the following format: Topic Sentence, Lead in to Quotation/Example, Commentary x2, transition/lead in to Quotation/Example, commentary x2, Concluding Sentence/"So What?" These paragraphs will be practiced through repetition and Religion will reinforce the paragraph format.
During the fall semester in English, students will be learning grammar in English and in Foreign Language - almost simultaneously. Students will be expected to recognize and use the following: parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, verbs, verb phrases, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections), verb usage, the sentence, agreement, the clause, the phrase, sentence workshops, paragraphs and punctuation (expected).
During the Spring Semester in English, students read Girl with a Pearl Earring. At the same time, World History learns about the Protestant Reformation - interconnecting with Girl with a Pearl Earring in an essay combining the historical context to the personal experiences of the characters.
