Accommodations for each student are given based on her specific learning difference. These accommodations are presented at the beginning of each year to all of the students teachers through a process that gradually transitions the student toward maximum autonomy and self-awareness. Classroom accommodations may include:
Extended time on tests (50%, 100%)
Use of no scantrons on tests
Reading tests aloud
Use of a word processor for composing test essays
Access to a study buddy in class
Access to student or teacher notes
Permission to record lectures (Smart Pen)
Use of books on tape (Bookshare)
Use of Kurzweil and other assistive technology
Students who are applying to or are enrolled in Notre Dame High School may receive accommodations on standardized tests including the following:
HSPT (High School Placement Test)
PSAT
SAT
AP (Advanced Placement exams)
ACT
Note: For the PSAT, SAT, and AP exams, students must apply for and receive approval for accommodations through the College Board.
The accommodations to which a student is entitled are contingent upon information contained in the documentation of her disability, and are approved by the testing agency. Not all accommodations are available on every test. These accommodations may include:
Extended time (50%, 100%)
Enlarged format test
Large block answer sheet
Use of a computer for essay-composition
Reading a test aloud to self
Testing in a quiet (separate) location
Extended or frequent breaks
Other accommodations are approved, as appropriate, based upon a students individual needs and the documentation of her disability.
