The Empowered For Success Program is a four-year program that provides support for students who enter Notre Dame High School with a diagnosed learning difference(s). The program reflects the Mission, Philosophy, School-wide Student Learning Outcomes, and The Hallmarks of a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community. Its goal is to inspire students to take charge of their education, to embrace their learning difference(s), and to succeed in high school, college, and in life.
Students are taught self-advocacy skills, which include articulation of their educational needs, problem solving, and management of appropriate accommodations. They participate fully in the school life at Notre Dame and are expected to meet all the same academic standards as their peers. Often, students are enrolled in Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) level courses, are class and school leaders, star athletes, performers, and members of co-curricular organizations.
Young ladies who are both gifted and challenged, highly motivated, eager to learn and willing to step outside of their comfort zone benefit the most from Empowered For Success. The program is not a special education program, a “pull out” resource program, or a remediation program. Tailored to individual needs, students are supported, motivated, and encouraged as they work to accomplish their goals.
Note: Learning Differences at Notre Dame are defined as cognitive, medical, psychological or physical conditions, which may interfere with academic performance. All of the students who are identified as having a learning difference have been fully documented by appropriate professionals, a few have visual impairments or auditory impairments, and some have temporary conditions (such as a broken arm which would interfere with test-taking).
