Summer at NDB

This creative course offers a variety of art projects that can be completed in one or two days. The artwork will include clay, miniature accordion books, trading cards, packing tape bracelets, embroidery, weaving, and felting. Materials and techniques range from collage and printmaking to weaving, embroidery basics, and fibers. For those who love to draw, the art studio is the perfect place to work with pencil, charcoal, and all mixed media. If you love art (and who doesn’t?), this is the course for you!

Learn how to find and tell stories about your community – Spend time as a student journalist and learn skills, such as researching stories, interviewing people, writing news stories, taking photos and videos, designing layouts, and publishing them in print and online.  Students will spend time in the newsroom practicing these skills and looking for what’s happening on-campus.  Raise your skill level as a middle school journalist or take your next step as a rising high school journalist.
Supplies: Students will need access to a laptop computer or tablet device as well as a cell phone with audio, photo, and video apps in order to create content during class. List of required apps to be provided shortly before class starts.

Get ready to explore Spanish with a unique and immersive approach: TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). This method focuses on engaging stories, making the language come alive as you learn through listening, reading, speaking, and writing in a supportive environment. In this course, we prioritize communication over perfection, so feel free to experiment with the language!

Our Goals:

• Communication: Work with all language skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing—focused on real-world communication, not perfection.
• Culture: Discover the rich diversity of Spanish-speaking cultures. By learning about products, practices, and perspectives, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and your own through comparisons and reflections.
• Communities: Explore Spanish in your own community and beyond, experiencing the language in action and making meaningful connections. Learn how Spanish links to various content areas, careers, and global perspectives.

Wrap up each day with fun and energetic games that keep students active and involved! Learn the basics and explore popular sports like badminton, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, flag football, and more. Through these activities, students will build teamwork, communication, and leadership skills while having a blast!

We will end each week with fun on Fridays! 

Each camp will focus on setting, passing, digging, hitting, serving, and blocking in a competitive atmosphere. Please get your registration in, as camps fill up quickly!

This course is designed to offer students the skills and knowledge needed to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. A variety of fitness activities and sports will be introduced, complemented by instruction in health education. This will satisfy the NDB one year P.E. requirement and also meets the requirements for the California State mandate for health education.

With this course, incoming freshmen get a chance to meet some of their peers, start their summer assignments with direct help and guidance, and learn some of the material that they will cover in their math, science, and English classes in the Fall. Come take advantage of this opportunity to get a head start on your freshman year!

This class fulfills the state requirement for student preparation for an instructional permit and/or provisional driver’s license. Students will learn the highway system, basic maneuvers, informed decision-making, and the dangers of impaired driving due to chemical use. This is a classroom course only.

If you are a rising senior (Class of 2026) and would like to get an early start on the college admissions process, this five-day workshop is for you! In addition to learning how to strategize for the various application requirements, you will be guided through a brainstorming process to begin developing (or perhaps complete) your personal statement. This summer intensive workshop will show you how to create a personalized and compelling application package to reflect your strengths inside and outside of the classroom so that you are able to present yourself in a meaningful way to college admissions officers.

Everyone can be good at math! NDB's Foundations for Math Success summer course helps rising 9th grade students solidify their understanding of middle school math concepts, close any remaining gaps, and grow confidence for success in Algebra I. Students enjoy this evidence-based approach to learning mathematics, which integrates powerful universal design for learning (UDL) and social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies into every lesson.

Interested in law, debate, acting, or any of the above? Get hands-on experience learning about the criminal justice system, how to write proper questions to ask witnesses on the stand, and some of the Rules of Evidence that could lead to you one day shouting “Objection!” If you want to develop your critical thinking and public speaking skills, or you want to be a step ahead when the Mock Trial season starts, this is the course for you.

The Summer Lab Skills course is designed to support those students who are accelerating into Biology or Honors Biology in their freshman year. The course provides opportunities to learn and practice lab skills incorporating design thinking, collaboration, and communication. Students are introduced to laboratory and technology tools that will be used during the year.
