First hired in February, 2014, Dr. Anna Gavidia is a native Spanish speaker born in El Salvador, Central America. She received her Doctoral Degree in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from UC- Berkeley in 1999. Before joining the Notre Dame Belmont community, Dr. Gavidia was a lecturer at UC Berkeley as well as San José State University. During her sons’ primary school years, she was the president of the Fiesta Gardens Immersion School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for 3 years. At NDB, she has served as the moderator for the California Scholarship Federation for the past 2 years. Dr. Gavidia is the World Languages Department Chair and teaches Spanish 1, Spanish 4, and AP Spanish. In the classroom, she creates a culture of acceptance and understanding while challenging her students to speak Spanish in order to develop the skills needed to thrive in the larger global community.
