Dr. Elizabeth Hegarty, PhD. » Profile

Originally from Liverpool, England, Dr. Hegarty has been teaching for longer than she cares to admit and is delighted that since 2006 she has been at Notre Dame.  She arrived in CA from Liverpool with her husband Aidan. Prior to joining our community, she taught in England and then worked in the San Mateo Union High School District for 7 years.  She has taught general sciences and multiple levels of chemistry.  She came to Notre Dame after her daughters, who each found their niche here. (Catherine ‘04, Gillian ‘07 and Sarah ‘10). Her son attended Serra (Terence ‘02).  When not teaching, she can be found spending time with her favorite (only) granddaughter, and her family. Walking the dogs, reading, knitting, listening to music and cooking are among her favorite pastimes. She is currently teaching Chemistry; Honors Chemistry and  AP Chemistry. Dr Hegarty earned both her BSc and PhD in Chemistry in England. She was moderator of the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) and Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) and a co-coordinator of Intersession. She is a proud recipient of the Pepsi Educator of the Year (AHS)  and the Rosalind Crosby Award for Excellence in Teaching (NDB). She is an active member of AACT and NSTA.
