“Mama Yao” as she is affectionately known by the community, has been working at Notre Dame for the last 17 years. Raised in San Francisco, she obtained her B.A. from USF in Ethnic Studies. She later moved to the Millbrae with her husband and raised three children. Both of her daughters graduated from NDB (‘01 and ‘03) and her son graduated from Serra High School (‘02).
Mirna has served in a variety of roles during her tenure here at Notre Dame, most recently she has become the face of Notre Dame, greeting all our visitors as they enter the building. She has served as a KAIROS leader, is a back-up van driver for Tri-School and the train, coordinates our substitutes, has chaperoned numerous immersion trips to Dorothy’s Place, the Tenderloin, Mexico, and Nicaragua, and is one of our Senior Class Moderators.
Her favorite thing about working at Notre Dame, and what keeps her coming back, is that she loves the students.
