NDB Celebrates 175 Years of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in California

This week, Notre Dame Belmont faculty and staff attended the 175th anniversary celebration of the Sisters of Notre Dame’s presence in California. The event began with a beautiful liturgy at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in San Jose, followed by a reception at Notre Dame San Jose.

During the celebration, Sister Maureen Hilliard shared the inspiring story of the Sisters’ arrival in California and the profound impact of their ministry throughout the state.

Students from Notre Dame San Jose opened the liturgy with a special procession featuring meaningful symbols of the Notre Dame tradition, including sunflowers and banners representing the Hallmarks of Notre Dame. It was a truly beautiful and moving moment.

The Mass was presided over by Bishop Oscar Cantú of the Diocese of San Jose, making for a meaningful and memorable celebration honoring the rich history and enduring legacy of the Sisters of Notre Dame. We are proud to be a part of such a special lineage!
