Last week, Notre Dame Belmont (NDB) sophomores headed south to Pescadero for a retreat at the 26-acre Santa Cruz Permaculture Farm, where they explored the connection between people, nature and mindful living. Through hands-on work and discussion, students learned how caring for the environment starts with understanding it—and how small, intentional choices can make a big difference.

They rolled up their sleeves to tend sweetgrass, dig up stubborn weeds and clear out a lemon balm patch so that healthy plants could thrive. Even first-time gardeners jumped right in, enjoying the chance to work outdoors with friends. The group also visited a nearby creek and learned about the connection between land and water, rounding out a meaningful (and a little muddy!) day of teamwork, fresh air and appreciation for the natural world.

This retreat was centered around the Notre Dame Hallmark "Act for Peace and Justice" where NDB educates for and acts on behalf of justice, peace and care for all creation.

Great work, Tigers!
