This week students, faculty and staff celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Students who celebrate Rosh Hashanah spoke about their celebrations and practices and shared delicious treats. Students learned that Rosh Hashanah is a celebration of the anniversary of the world's creation and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of reflection, self-examination and repentance that culminates in Yom Kippur. Students learned that for Rosh Hashanah, eating symbolic foods like apples and honey for a sweet year, and praying for forgiveness and a good future are common practices.

This celebration was part of Honor Your Roots, Celebrate Your Heritage, a monthly series during lunch or collaboration for a variety of celebrations where students share about their cultural or religious celebrations and identity. Other celebrations include a Latine Food Fair, Lunar New Year, Día de los muertos, Día de los niños, Holi, Diwali, Eid, Purim, Pride and more!
