Students Meet SF District Attorney Brooke Jenkins

Today Notre Dame Belmont (NDB) students had a much anticipated visit from San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. The student body gathered in the Moore Pavilion to hear from Brooke and had the opportunity to ask a variety of questions. 

Brooke shared many valuable tips and advice with our students, including:

• You do not have to choose between having a family and a career — you can excel in both areas of your life and have it all.
• Don't just be the first or second woman or woman of color to do something. Continue to lead so that it becomes an expectation for women and women and color to fill leadership positions.
• The two types of litigation and how to allow your strengths and what you enjoy to help you decide which path to take if interested in pursuing law.
• Pursue internships and things like NDB's Mock Trial Team to explore what interests you and what you enjoy. Experience and exposure is everything!

After her wonderful discussion with the student body, Brooke had an intimate discussion with NDB's Black Student Union (BSU). Being the first BSU to launch on campus this year, Brooke was impressed with the passion and dedication of BSU students to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact in the NDB community. She shared wonderful advice with students, including:

• Don't focus on the numbers. It does not matter who is in the room — just know that you BELONG in that room and that you are meant to be there with the people who are in that room with you.
• Find the thing that you are so passionate about that it motivates you to get out of bed every morning — that is how you identify your career path. 

After speaking with the student body and the BSU, Brooke was also interviewed by journalism students for their upcoming segment of Tiger TV. We can't wait to see the interview!
